Maria McGeoghan
2012 Creative & Media Award Winner
Maria was the first woman editor in the history of the Manchester evening News and was at the heart of the huge changes at the M.E.N as the newspaper group evolved to embrace the digital world. She was at the helm of overseeing the introduction of the M.E.N Lite free newspaper and the move to part-paid part-free distribution model, considered pioneering at its inception. As an editor, Maria gave her departmental heads the freedom to express their creativity and to lead their departments. Although a career woman through and through, Maria is most proud of her role as a mother to her 10-year-old, Annie, and at the age of 50, decided to devote more time to motherhood, encapsulating the dilemma of so many high-flying professional women.
